There is a lot of reasons why you should consider turning off ads on your content or limiting the number of ads displayed.
Here's some of the main reasons :
  • Ads make your website or content load slower. 
  • Ads are annoying and most users get irritated by them.
  • They often aren't worth it , if most of your traffic leave your content when an ad is displayed.
To some creators , ad revenue is their only source of income and thats why they rely on ads to earn a revenue.

Alternative ways to earn revenue 

Even though most people rely on ad revenue to monitize their content there's other ways to earn money from your content. 
Here's some alternatives:
  • Affiliate links. The most popular being Amazon's Affiliate program,  which allows creators to join the program and use an unique link to earn a certain percentage on sales of products that was made using your link.
  • Partnerships or sponsorships. A lot of companies offer creators the opportunity to earn a revenue by reviewing or advertising their products on creators' content.
  • Merch.  A lot of creators do this to offer themselves a way to earn a second income stream by selling clothing and other items with their branding on the items.
  • E-books. If you are very knowledgeable about certain topics and want to share your knowledge,  selling e-books is a very profitable way to do so.
  • Subscription based content.  Creating content that only viewers who subscribe to your website or content can view this specific content.

Are ads worth keeping on your content?

That's up to you. There is so many other ways to earn revenue and you can even earn more revenue if you used these alternatives compared to the revenue from ad placement.
