Google Blogger vs Wordpress

When people think about starting a blog , two of the most common platforms they think about are Google blogger and wordpress, but which one is best

Google Blogger vs Wordpress

Google blogger

Google blogger is a blogging platform owned by Google that is completely free to use and has adsense built right into it. You can start placing ads on your blog once your adsense account has been approved and do not need to pay anything to place these ads on your page. Google had a community/social media that a lot of bloggers used to promote their pages called Google+ but it was closed in 2018.

Pros  of Google Blogger

  • Completely free to use
  • Straight forward layout.
  • Anyone with a Google account can follow your blog.
  • Adsense offers a higher CPM compared to Wordads.

Cons of Google blogger

  • No built in tools to help you analyze your blog and see the trends of your content.
  • No community to help you grow your blog.
  • Google adsense takes up to 2 weeks to approve your application.

Wordpress

Wordpress has a lot of different plans available to choose from starting with a very limited free plan. The free plan allows users to publish blogs and content for free but the url has to end with .wordpress.com with the free plan. Other plans start from $2 for a personal account which removes the .wordpress.com extension. If you want to place ads on your blog you will have to upgrade to the business account which cost $8 per month, which you have to pay upfront for a year , which is $96 just to be able to place ads on your blog. The native ad network owned by wordpress is called Wordads.

Pros of Wordpress

  • Wordpress is easy to use.
  • Has a easy to understand layout.
  • Has a huge community of over 54 million bloggers.
  • Has built in themes
  • Includes a lot of tools if you buy the business plan.

Cons of Wordpress

  • You have to pay to earn any ad revenue.
  • All the tools are only available on paid plan.
  • Content is limited to a smaller audience if you don't have a paid plan.
  • Only wordpress account holders can follow your blog.
  • Wordads has one of the lowest CPM of any ad network.

So which is best?

That depends on your budget and what your willing to spend. If don't want to spend any money on starting a blog , Google blogger is the best option.

But if your willing to spend $96 on a blog , i believe that Wordpress would be best. The business plan is very good value for money and the tools offered really helps a lot.
